Distribution Uniformity (DU) is a measure of how evenly water is applied across a field during irrigation. For example, if one inch of water is applied in one part of the field and only half an inch is applied in another part of the field, that is poor DU. In short, bad DU means that either too much water is applied resulting in unnecessary expense, or too little water is applied, causing stress to crops. Better DU means more profits through cost savings, healthier crops and better yields.

Nelson has recently developed a Spinner & Spray line that has many applications but is especially effective in the nursery and greenhouse environment. For outdoor overhead irrigation of container grown stock use the S10 Spinner for a relatively high application rates and optimal uniformity. For greenhouse applications, the S10 Spinner has different plate options for different mounting configurations. It can be used with an inverted mount for cold frames, an upright or inverted mount for shade houses, and an upright or inverted mount for larger, more open greenhouses. The Nelson D10 Spray is intended for irrigation of smaller areas and for high pressure misting. Its wide selection of nozzle sizes lets you pick an ideal application rate.

• A media filter uses gravel (or sand) as a bed that captures the suspended matter in the water flowing through.
• Media filters are particularly effective for filtering algae, organic matter and recycled water.
• Odis media filters (series 4000) use a unique design of a double bottom chamber, divided by a welded reinforced steel plate.
• The upper chamber contains the gravel (or sand) media, the lower chamber is empty and collects the filtered water.
• The plate is covered by "mushroom" diffusers which are plastic, slotted conical units. They disperse the water uniformly, using effectively the whole media volume avoiding the occurrence of channeling or caking when operated correctly. This filter is particularly suitable for backflushing - a process involving the reversal of the water flow, causing a turbulent expansion of the media as a fluidised bed.
